The current castle replaces an older construction, the origin of which dates back to the Middle Ages. Former seat of the seigniory of Chall, it passed through the hands of many families during its history. According to the sales and the inheritances, it becomes the successive property of the family of Châteaubriant and the family of Chambes before returning to members of the family of Nicolas Fouquet

An Angevin neogothic gem

The castle built in the 19th century is commissioned by Ida and her husband the Count of La Roche. The choice of the neo-Gothic style is a means of restoring the family glory after the French Revolution.

It was also a choice motivated by the tastes of the time, the neo-Gothic being then in vogue among the Angevin aristocracy. Its size and its appearance earned it the nickname of “petit Chambord” or “Chambord Angevin”. The castle was completed in 1854, for 6 years of construction, a record for the time!

An extraordinary size

The castle is over 60m long and 45m high. It has 120 rooms on 5 levels and nearly 4,000 m2 of parquet. It has a main entrance with two massive towers, very imposing outbuildings (40 meters long by 10 deep) and an orangery, coupled with a large greenhouse.

Unfortunately, shortly before moving into the castle, the Count of La Rochefoucauld died. It was his wife, Ida de la Rochefoucauld, who finished the work and had the tower built

My pretty summer camps….

Requisitioned during the Second World War by German officers, the Château was bought in 1948 by the town of Choisy-le-Roi (in Val-de-Marne) to make it a place of summer camp until the beginning of the 1970s. .

Towards a luxurious reception venue

To date and since 2002, it is the family of New Jersey in the United States, which owns it. This family continues to enhance and renovate the building, which has been listed as a historical monument since 2004.

It becomes an emblematic place for weddings and high-end events at national and especially international level.
